Domain Secrets Revealed: Saving Money On The Purchase Of Domain Names

The number of domain name sales has been escalating in recent years, and with the arrival of new top level domain names (TLDN), that escalation is set to soar at an exponential rate. So what does it take to get your hands on a domain or multiple domains and, probably more importantly, how will you go about saving a bit of money whilst doing it? Here are a few domain secrets revealed that will help you with the answers you are looking for.

There are generally two ways of acquiring domain names with the intention of saving money. The first of these domain secrets revealed pertain to a practise which is also common in the real world, known as 'shopping around'. What this entails is basically comparing the prices for various domain names from some of the 600 ICANN accredited registrars or, for a more indirect route, from domain name resellers.

The second way of saving on domain names runs along a similar track and is one usually favoured by the big players. At the core of this money-saving tactic is a slogan which could read 'The More You Buy, The Less You Pay'. This means that a lot of resellers and registrars will give you a discount if you buy more than a certain amount of domain names. Of course, it should be said that the legitimate use of domain names used in bulk is encouraged. Illegitimate use is referred to domain abuse - a current hot topic with many of the leading and controlling figures on the internet.

One additional domain secrets revealed common to both of these techniques is the fact that the longer your domain's registration period, the less you'll pay which also has the benefit of avoiding the sometimes expensive renewal fees.

A final word of advice on saving when buying domain names comes in the form of packaged deals. While technically not only related to saving on domain names, these deals typically refer to the sale of the domain name with a certain amount of accompanying web hosting space and bandwidth. This option is therefore recommended to those individuals or companies who have the intention of using their acquired domain name as a presence on the web.

There is, however, a fair amount of domain secrets revealed when it comes to exercising caution when buying new domains. Unfortunately the internet also comes with drawbacks which exist in equal measure in the real world. Dishonest businessmen and companies are plentiful and will try and make a buck off unsuspecting customers by advertising domain names at astonishingly low prices. As these schemes tend to vary, it is hard to estimate what the subsequent damage to the customer's financial status would be, but we can safely say that you'll probably end up paying more than you have bargained for. Check the background and the legitimacy of those entities who offer extraordinarily cheap domain names and make sure, in the case of registrars, that they are ICANN accredited.
